The
St. Clair County Road Commission, on a ten-year average, uses approximately
21,000 tons of salt per year for winter maintenance (November through April).
Salt prices have increased from $28.91 per ton in 2005-2006 to $58.37 per ton in 2014-2015,
more than doubling in cost. During the 2014-2015 winter season, the Road
Commission used 19,433 tons of salt for a cost of $1,134,346.
